The University Law College under Gauhati University (GU) will hold entrance test for law aspirants seeking admission to the five-year integrated BA LLB (Honours) and three-year LLB degree programme, as desired by the Bar Council of India. The premier law institute of the northeast will conduct entrance test for law aspirants after seven years. This, officials said, would help select the most deserving candidates. The college authorities have reserved 20% of the total seats in the LLB programme for graduates from universities other than GU.

"As desired by the Bar Council of India, we will conduct an entrance test like any other leading law institute in the country," said JP Bora, principal of the college.

Established in 1948, the University Law College is a constituent college of GU that has produced several distinguished legal luminaries.

This year, entrance test will be held for 120 seats in the three-year LLB degree programme, while Class XII pass-outs will have to compete hard to get admission in 60 seats available in the five-year BA LLB (Honours) degree programme.

Sources in the university said the entrance test would ensure that only candidates with command over subjects get admission.

For the three-year BA LLB programme, the last date of submission of forms is July 25, while the last date of receiving admission forms for the five-year integrated BA LLB (Honours) course is July 23.

Admission to the five-year course and the three-year degree programme will be held on August 8 and 9, respectively.
